Italian-American soprano Elizabeth Tredent has entranced critics and audiences alike with her “robust, beautiful” and “richly colored” voice. Tredent’s affinity for the Italian repertoire led to her Sarasota Opera debut as princess Fiora in Montemezzi's L’amore dei tre re in 2017. Immediately following her debut, Ms. Tredent was invited to return to Sarasota Opera as Violetta in her first Verdi role, a role which she later reprised in concert in England. Ms. Tredent’s close relationship with Sarasota Opera also led to her return in the title roles of a double bill of Donizetti’s Rita and Wolf-Ferrari’s Il segreto di Susanna in 2019.

 

Upon relocating to Germany, Ms. Tredent made her European debut in 2019 with Theater Kiel in the season premiere and inaugural performance of the new General Music Director, Benjamin Reiners, singing the role of Juliette in Korngold’s Die tote Stadt. While a number of debuts in 2020 and 2021 were canceled, due to COVID-19, including her debut as Erste Dame in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte, Ms. Tredent jumped in at Theater Kiel for multiple performances of Wittenbrink’s Sekretärinnen and Webber’s Sunset Boulevard in 2022.

Ms. Tredent began her career as a mezzo-soprano making her mainstage debut at the age of 23 with the Lyric Opera of Kansas City as Suzuki in Puccini’s Madama Butterfly. She transitioned to soprano in 2015, and that same year made her soprano mainstage debut as La Contessa in Le nozze di Figaro with dell’Arte Opera in New York. A staple in her repertoire, she went on to reprise the role with Opera in Williamsburg in 2017. 

 

Tredent’s voice lends itself with ease to the Verdian repertoire. She was invited to compete in the 2016 Voci Verdiane Concorso Internazionale a Busseto in which she was a semi-finalist, covered Lida in Verdi’s early gem, La battaglia di Legnano, and had the honor of singing the final notes of Sarasota Opera’s Verdi Cycle. 

 

Tredent made her debut at Severance Hall in 2011 singing in a recital with the “EGOT” composer, Marvin Hamlisch. That same year she made her Kennedy Center debut, appearing in a recital with pianist Shuai Wang. In 2014, she appeared with the Duke Symphony Orchestra as a soloist in Beethoven’s 9th Symphony, and sang Anita in the West Side Story at the Grand Opening of the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts in which featured guest artists included Placido Domingo, Patti LuPone, and Diana Krall.

 

Tredent studied at The Cleveland Institute of Music and University of Missouri-Kansas City, where she was awarded a full scholarship for her Master of Music degree. Tredent currently resides in Germany with her husband, conductor and pianist, John Spencer IV.
